Boar’s Head recalled select Pecorino Romano cheese products due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination in November 2025, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The contamination was found in products supplied by The Ambriola Company. Boar’s Head voluntarily withdrew all items produced by the supplier as a precautionary measure.
Ambriola suspended distribution and production of the affected products so the company can thoroughly review its food safety procedures and sanitation.
Products affected by the Boar’s Head cheese recall include 6 oz packages of Boar’s Head Grated Pecorino Romano Cheese and 7 oz packages of Boar’s Head Pecorino Romano Cheese, with sell-by dates ranging from November 2025 to May 2026.
The recall also impacts other brands produced by The Ambriola Company, including Locatelli, Member’s Mark, and Pinna.
On January 6, the FDA upgraded the earlier cheese recall to a Class I designation due to listeria contamination. A Class I designation means that consumption could cause serious injury or death.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products as of the latest updates.
20 states have been impacted by the recall, including California.

What Should I Do If I Bought Recalled Boar’s Head Cheese?
Customers who purchased the recalled products should not consume them and should either dispose of them or return them for a full refund.
The affected cheese products could cause serious adverse health consequences or death if consumed.
If you have purchased recalled cheese, you should:
- Contact a healthcare provider immediately if you have consumed a recalled food, especially if you’re showing symptoms like muscle aches, a fever or digestive issues.
- Search your freezer and refrigerator for any of the recalled products. Don’t consume any food that has been recalled. Discard any food that has been recalled. Keep all packaging, medical documentation and receipts which support your case.
- Check all public health agencies for recalls.
- Look out for symptoms of listeria infection for several weeks after exposure. This illness may take some time to develop.
- Clean all containers, refrigerators and surfaces which could have touched the recalled foods. The bacteria is capable of surviving in refrigerators and can easily spread to additional foods and surfaces.
- Contact an experienced food poisoning attorney to find out if you’re eligible for financial compensation in a lawsuit if you have been given a listeriosis diagnosis.
Taking these steps promptly can help protect your health and preserve important evidence if you later pursue a food poisoning claim.
