Why Were SharkNinja Pressure Cookers Recalled?

SharkNinja Foodi OP300 Series Multi-Function Pressure Cookers were recalled because their lids are able to be opened during use. This can cause hot contents such as hot food to escape, which poses a risk of serious burn injuries to users.

There have been 106 reports of burn injuries, including severe burn injuries: over 50 second- or third-degree burns have been reported.

A serious problem with these devices is that their designs are dangerous even when used correctly. Users follow instructions, rely upon safety features, and still end up suffering serious injuries. The issue is the engineering of the device and the way the device was presented to consumers.

The Lids Can Get Removed While the Devices Are Still Under Pressure

For a device with a pressure cooking function to be safe, its lid needs to stay locked until all of the pressure is released. This safety feature is mandatory for modern electronic pressure cookers like the Foodi. SharkNinja claimed its Foodi devices had this safety feature, but their design lets the lids get rotated as well as opened while food inside is under pressure. This can lead to superheated liquid and food being instantly ejected, leading to injuries such as severe burns.

The Locking Mechanisms Aren’t Reliable

The recalled pressure cookers rely on mechanical, sensor-based systems to keep lids sealed and detect pressure. The systems don’t work, though. Users have reported being able to open the lids of the defective pressure cookers without warning while the devices were under pressure. Users have described the device giving inconsistent feedback which makes it difficult to tell when it’s safe to open the device.

The Marketing Was Deceptive

The recalled devices were marketed as high-end, modern pressure cookers featuring advanced safety technology. This was a message that was plastered across retail websites, videos, instruction manuals and packaging. The public was told that the devices had numerous protection layers. A lot of people bought the devices specifically due to thinking they were safer than older devices.

No Timely Warning Was Given

Even once reports that users suffered burns started to come out, SharkNinja failed to immediately take public action. They didn’t issue broad warnings. They didn’t send stop-sale alerts. The public continued to use the devices without knowing they were dangerous. This delay can be as legally damaging as the product defect. Companies have a duty to act when they learn their products are hurting people. It is unacceptable to wait until a product is federally recalled.

Which SharkNinja Pressure Cookers Were Recalled?

The recall involved all of the Ninja Foodi OP300 Series Multi-Function Pressure Cookers.

These are devices with functions including air frying and pressure cooking. The devices are black with 6.5 quart capacities. The word “Ninja” has been printed on the product label and front of every unit.

The recalled model numbers include:

  • OP350CO
  • OP305CO
  • OP305
  • OP302HW
  • OP302HB
  • OP302HCN
  • OP302HAQ
  • OP302BRN
  • OP302
  • OP301
  • OP301A
  • OP300

The devices were sold between 2019 and 2025. The devices were sold at major retailers such as Costco, Walmart, Target, Amazon and Sam’s Club throughout the country, as well as online at the websites of Ninja, Walmart, Costco, Sam’s Club, Amazon and Target.

Who Can Be Held Liable?

A man sitting at a desk holding a pen. There are a piece of paper, a gavel and scales of justice on the desk.SharkNinja, the manufacturer of the recalled Foodi devices, can be held liable for injuries caused by the recalled devices.

Manufacturers of defective devices can be held liable for injuries caused by the devices. There are three types of product defects:

  • Manufacturing defects: This is when something goes wrong during the product’s manufacturing process, causing the product to be dangerous.
  • Design defects: This is when the product is defective by design, so it’s dangerous even when manufactured and used properly.
  • Marketing defects: This is when companies know or should know that their products are dangerous but fail to warn about the danger in their marketing.

SharkNinja can be held liable for your injuries because their Foodi devices contain a design defect and a marketing defect.

The devices contain a design defect because the pressure cooking lids are able to be opened while the devices’ contents are under pressure. The over 100 burn injuries caused by the devices have been a result of this design defect. Over one million pressure cookers have been recalled because of this design defect.

The devices contain a marketing defect because SharkNinja failed to warn the public about the danger posed by the Foodi devices even after receiving countless reports of users being injured by the devices.

The recall is an acknowledgment of these product defects, helping to solidify your case if you have been injured by one of these devices.

Injuries Caused by the SharkNinja

Burn injuries have been reported by users of the SharkNinja Foodi pressure cookers. There are three levels of burn injuries:

First-degree burns: These are mild burns which only affect the outer layer of skin, which is known as the epidermis. These burns are red, dry and painful, without blisters. An example is mild sunburn. It’s rare for these to lead to long-term tissue damage.

Second-degree burns: These are serious burns involving the epidermis as well as a layer of skin known as the dermis. These burns appear blistered and red and might be painful and swollen.

Third-degree burns: These burns destroy the dermis and epidermis, and might also damage underlying tendons, muscles and bones. These burns appear charred or white. No sensation exists in the burn area since nerve endings get destroyed. These are very serious burns which require immediate medical attention and may require reconstructive surgery or skin grafting.

In addition, severe burns can lead to infections, which may be life-threatening.

A burn injury lawyer at our law firm can help you recover compensation for your burn injuries.

26 individual lawsuits have been filed over injuries caused by the devices, though.

Our law firm is filing individual lawsuits on behalf of victims injured by the devices, not a class action lawsuit. We believe our clients can recover more compensation for their injuries by filing individual lawsuits than by joining a class action lawsuit.

What Should I Do If I Own a Recalled Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker?

If you own a recalled Foodi device, you should immediately stop using the product’s pressure cooking function.

You can contact SharkNinja for a free replacement lid at (888) 370-1733.

You can continue to use the device’s other functions, such as the product’s air frying function.

You should save purchase receipts regarding the device. These can help you if you need to file a lawsuit.

If you’ve been injured by the device, keep medical records as well as photos of your injuries. If the accident occurred in California, our attorneys can consult with you, in order to figure out if you qualify for a lawsuit.

Do I Have to Return the Pressure Cooker to File a Ninja Foodi Lawsuit?

No. You do not have to return your pressure cooker in order to file a lawsuit.

In fact, your defective pressure cooker could be important evidence in a lawsuit. Therefore, it can be helpful regarding your case if you keep it instead of returning it.

SharkNinja Pressure Cooker Lawsuit Updates

May 20, 2025 Update

A lawsuit was filed on May 9 in Massachusetts by a California woman alleging that SharkNinja deceptively marketed Ninja Foodi pressure cookers.

The woman claims she bought a Ninja Foodi pressure cooker in May 2021, but immediately stopped using the product upon learning of the recall issued earlier this month.

The woman alleges she would not have bought the device if she knew that it had a defect which can lead to second- or third-degree burns. The woman alleges SharkNinja knew or should have known about the defect from warranty claims, customer complaints, quality assurance protocols or pre-market tests.

The woman is seeking to have her lawsuit obtain class action status.
